When Alan Heller and his daughter, Holiday – who recently bought a home in Crestline – went fishing at Lake Gregory, he landed an orange fish that turned out to be a lightning trout. They were mystified by what it was until they looked it up online. Lightning trout are a genetic mutation of a rainbow trout, which Holiday also caught. Mt. Lassen Fish Hatchery has been raising the fish which are rainbow trout in all respects except color.
