San Bernardino County Fire Chief Dan Munsey has appointed Jason Serrano to the position of assistant chief of the Mountain Division.

Chief Serrano will oversee fire, rescue and emergency medical response for the division, which includes the communities of Crestline, Twin Peaks, Lake Arrowhead, Green Valley Lake, Fawnskin, Angeles Oaks and Forest Falls.

Chief Serrano began his career in public service in 1994 as a paid-call firefighter and a private ambulance EMT in the High Desert. By 1997, he was hired by the San Bernardino City Fire Department, where he dedicated 20 years, rising through the ranks to the position of captain.

In addition, Chief Serrano was a fire technology instructor at Victor Valley College for nearly 16 years and was also a registered instructor with the California State Fire Training Division of the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

When the City of San Bernardino joined County Fire in 2016, Chief Serrano immediately took an active role in developing several operational training programs, formulating new policies and contributing to the organization across various capacities.

In 2019 he was promoted to battalion chief and assigned to the West Valley Division in Upland and Fontana. He currently serves as the chair of the FIRESCOPE Task Force, demonstrating his commitment to improving the fire service in California and beyond through statewide collaboration.

Chief Serrano, who hold a bachelor’s degree in fire science management, is pursuing a master’s degree in executive leadership at Liberty University. He has achieved Chief Fire Officer certification with the state.

“Chief Serrano’s extensive experience and dedication to the fire service make him an excellent choice to serve the residents of our mountain communities,” said Chief Munsey. “I’m excited to see how his leadership will continue to evolve County Fire’s services to our mountain residents.”
