On Thursday, July 11, Sunsets Island Bar & Grill opened its doors to members of the Lake Arrowhead Communities Chamber of Commerce to celebrate their grand opening and ribbon cutting.

Marina and Rich Goodwin welcomed a large crowd to the grand opening of their two venues in Lake Arrowhead Village.

Guests enjoyed samples of the restaurant’s Coconut-Crusted Shrimp with mango chutney and Lomi Lomi Salmon. Many enjoyed one of the bar’s specialty cocktails like a Gentle Breeze or Blue Hawaiian.

Marina and Rich Goodwin were there to greet their guests and cut the ribbon. “We are overwhelmed by your support,” Marina said, adding they thought maybe 10 people would attend the event. Instead, the two venues – Sunsets and Tiki Republic – were packed.

“We’ve been open for three weekends,” Marina said. “And we have already been seeing some repeat customers.”

Marina and Rich had come up to Lake Arrowhead 13 years ago “on a whim,” she said.

Rich referred people to www.tikirepublic.com to learn about the artifacts that are part of the décor. He thanked local artist Steve Matson, who hails from Hawaii, for the artwork guests will see in both Sunsets and Tiki Republic. And he thanked contractor Chad Logan for his work remodeling the space.

Following the chamber mixer, folks were invited to stay and order dinner, which many did.

Menus for both sites are available at www.sunsetsislandbarandgrill.com. Currently Sunsets is open on Wednesdays from 4 to 9 p.m.; Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
