Rex “left us way too young.” He was only 71 when cancer took him from
this earth life. He was born in 1952 to Liz and Earl Jackson. He attended
Jurupa Unified schools and graduated from Rubidoux High in 1971.
Rex was immediately drafted by the Cincinnati Reds baseball team – as a
pitcher-hitter. He graduated from Cal-Poly Pomona University with majors
in P.E. and English. After his baseball career, in 1976, Rex joined Merrill
Lynch Financial Group. He went on to start his own financial consulting
business with offices in both Riverside and Redlands. After he closed the
Riverside office, his office was in Redlands, until he passed in January 2024.
Rex was preceded in death by his mother, Liz, his sister, Val, and his father,
Earl. He is survived by his life partner of 54 years, Nancy Hammerschmidt,
who lives in Crestline; his brother Reggie Jackson; sister-in-law
Heidi Jackson; and his nieces Elsa and Tess, who all reside in Loma Linda.
On March 18, Rex’s life celebration tribute was held in Riverside. It was attended by lots of relatives, friends, mentors, colleagues and his athletic coaches, who all agreed that Rex loved life and his life was “a life well lived.”
