Rebuilding Together Mountain Communities
On July 24, the Rebuilding Together Mountain Communities board of directors held its annual potluck barbecue. This year we were joined by a delegation from the national Rebuilding Together organization.
This group, representing the many states in which they work, came to Southern California to confirm Long Beach as the site of the next conference and to visit a few local affiliates as well. We spent a pleasant afternoon talking and getting to know one another. It was quite an energizing few hours.
Much advice was given on ways to help resolve our funding shortfall. But the fact remains – unless we can raise $40,000 to $50,000 by next year, we will not be able to carry on this vital work for our mountain neighbors, some of whom may have to leave the mountains due to having insufficient funds to make their homes warm, safe and dry.
We will, of course, be applying for funding, grants and other charitable avenues to raise this amount, but we have always relied on our mountain communities for the first line of funding. Whether you call us Christmas in April or Rebuilding Together, we are the same people who have spent the last 30 years helping those who, because of age or lack of funds or both, remain here in our unique community.
I know from my own mailbox just how many requests we all get to help others but Rebuilding Together helps our neighbors and the money given stays here in our community. You can see it in the variety of repairs completed by us each year. Snowmaggedon was rough to survive and cost us our solvency, but it will not beat us, with your help.
So, if you want to help our Rebuilding Together, please reach out online, in person, by mail or phone, and stand up for our neighbors in need!
