Crestline Chamber updates bylaws

Aug 28, 2024 | Communities, Crestline

Staff Writer

The Crestline Chamber of Commerce has been moving forward and getting things accomplished these last couple of months. First on their list for this last month was the hiring of a part-time events director. They have received 18 applications and are currently interviewing for the position. At their next closed board meeting they will review the interviews and applications and choose the new coordinator for that position. The events director will help coordinate all the community events, such as Corks & Hops on Sept. 7 and Oct. 5, the upcoming Fall Festival on Nov. 9, Trick and Treat the Merchants on Oct. 26 and the other community events sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce all year long.

Bylaws corrections and updating have been discussed for months. After proper notification of the chamber members, a discussion was held over the proposed changes, which had been sent to the chamber members by email.

The old bylaws required the chamber to have 14 board members; with the requirement of serving on a committee and being active in the chamber and owning a business prior to being on the board made it difficult to find enough business owners qualified to run for the board. At times, it was very difficult to get 14 qualified community members who wanted to be on the unpaid but very responsible chamber board and, at times, it was difficult to gather a full quorum for voting. In fact, only two board members were in physical attendance for this meeting, with the other board members attending by phone; this part of the bylaws had been adjusted years ago during COVID. The new number approved was between a minimum of five and 10; many typos, misspellings and synonyms were corrected with the new bylaw approval.

The Crestline Magazine has already assigned the stories to be written for the fall edition and ad space is now being sold for a pre-Thanksgiving release of the magazine. Over 12,000 will be printed and mailed to homes and business post office boxes across the mountaintop, from Cedarpines Park to Skyforest.

The chamber may add mailing the magazine to the Running Springs area beginning with this edition. The magazine will also be sent to the visitor centers in the Inland Empire area. The Crestline Magazine is issued twice a year and is keeping the same rates as in past years. There is a discount for chamber members who wish to advertise.

The Crestline Chamber has been remodeling their storm-battered office building. During the winter of 2023, the back deck and handicapped access to the building was damaged and, with the deck collapsed, it had to be removed for safety reasons, which also damaged the waterlines coming into the building. The board has approved the funds needed to purchase a new ADA-approved ramp for the back door. The chamber has finally been able to have the roof repaired so the windows should stop leaking when it rains. They closed in one window so there is more wall space for displays. They have plans for a small store in the visitors center at the chamber office to fulfill the requests of the visitors, as they also answer the questions of the guests visiting the town.

The Crestline Chamber of Commerce office and visitors center is located on the north shore of Lake Gregory at 24385 Lake Drive in Crestline. It has a free parking lot for those conducting chamber business. The office is open weekdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call them for more information or to reserve magazine ad space at (909) 338-2706.
