Wrestlers learn from a pro

Derek Moore

It may be the start of football season – and wrestling season doesn’t start until November – but Rim wrestlers are training every day of the week that ends in “Y.” This past week, the head coach of the only NCAA D1 wrestling team in Southern California – California Baptist University – made his way up the hill to pass along some of his experience to our local Rim wrestlers.

Derek Moore, who is a D1 national wrestling champion himself, an Army veteran, a biochemist and an Olympic qualifier, visits our mountains every chance he can get. Being able to share his knowledge of the sport in such a beautiful mountain community is a welcome change from the big city life.

The Rim wrestling community thanks Derek for his contributions, because training 365 days a year alone wouldn’t make you #1. It takes many masters of the sport to teach students the thousands of moves, positions and situations that make up the great sport of wrestling.
