The calendar may say September but it’s time for Oktoberfest.
The celebration will take place in Lake Arrowhead Village, in Waterfront Park at the end of the peninsula, from Sept. 14 through Oct. 27.
What can guests expect?
Lederhosen and chicken headgear are encouraged at Oktoberfest.
There will be German beer, of course, for purchase. And traditional German food, also for purchase – bratwurst, knockwurst, sauerkraut, pretzels, cole slaw and more.
No Oktoberfest would be complete without good old oompah music. Several bands will take the stage to get you out there doing a polka – Hazelnuss, Kalifornia Krauts, Ladyhosen and Bavarian Beer Garden Band. Check the website, www.lakearrowheadoktoberfest.com, for a schedule to be sure you don’t miss your favorite band.
Choke the chicken is a game enjoyed by both men and women.
And then there are the games: kids musical chairs, team sausage toss, women’s and men’s choke the chicken contest and dance contests and parties. That schedule is also on the website. To compete in any of the games, sign up at the table in front of the stage.
There is some free seating available but tables can also be reserved (yes, through the website).
Oktoberfest will take place from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
No outside alcohol will be allowed; unopened bottles of water are OK. And guests may bring in their own food.
As a safety note: no standing or dancing on the tables.
Oktoberfest is a major fundraiser for Operation Provider, which has been helping families in need of food, clothing and utility assistance since 1989.
