A new restroom for Lake Gregory Regional Park and a County Fire boat dock at Lake Arrowhead are two items moving forward after getting a nod from San Bernardino County’s Board of Supervisors.

“There were two items on the Sept. 10 board of supervisor’s agenda that will impact the mountain communities in a positive way,” 3rd District Supervisor Dawn Rowe told the Alpine Mountaineer.

“First was item No. 39, which will provide for new restroom facilities at Lake Gregory,” she explained. “The other was item No. 71 which is a licensing agreement between San Bernardino County Fire Department and the Arrowhead Lake Association to build a fire safety dock and maintain a fire boat on Lake Arrowhead.

“Both improvements are much needed and will serve the community well for years to come,” she added.

At the Sept. 10 board meeting, supervisors tentatively approved a construction contract to CALTEC Corp., in the amount of $414,000, for the Lake Gregory Commerce Prefabricated Restroom Project.

Final contract approval is expected to take place at the board’s Sept. 24 meeting.

Restroom plans call for the prefabricated building to include two ADA compliant restrooms and a water bottle fill station as well.

The prefab restroom will be located along San Moritz Way, opposite from the Lake Gregory Education Center.

“At the next board meeting we will be asking the board to approve the contract,” said Robert Burton, project manager for the county. “We would like to start the project before the year is out, and we’re hoping it will be available for the public for spring or next summer.”

The new fire safety dock at Lake Arrowhead would provide County Fire with a way to maintain its fire boat at the lake and have it protected from weather elements.

The license agreement with Arrowhead Lake Association would be for the use of approximately 9,531 square feet of property, including an existing dock located near 870 North Highway 173 in Lake Arrowhead.

It would provide for the construction and use of a fire safety dock for the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, for the 10-year period starting Sept. 10, 2024, and run through Sept. 9, 2034, with no fee for the use of the premises.

The agreement would allow the county to expand the existing dock at the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District’s sole expense, be managed by San Bernardino County’s Project and Facilities Management Department and be funded by the Capital Improvement Program.

The improvements would eventually become the property of Arrowhead Lake Association upon termination of the license agreement.
