Apple Valley woman reports being assaulted; Investigation finds her to be the suspect
Deputies from Apple Valley Police Department were dispatched to a report of an assault in the parking lot of Apple Valley Smoke Shop, 20410 State Highway 18 on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Deputy G. Guzman responded and contacted the alleged victim who reported she had been assaulted. Deputy Guzman investigated the incident and contacted the alleged suspect, a 32-year-old male. Deputy Guzman was assisted by Deputy C. Wingard in collecting evidence and investigating the allegations.
The investigation revealed the victim who had reported the assault was found to be the actual assailant and the male subject the victim. Both parties sustained minor injuries. The female suspect was seen by medical personnel prior to being transported to jail and the victim, a 32-year-old male of Apple Valley, refused medical attention.
Ashley Maire Shields, 31 of Apple Valley, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and booked into High Desert Detention Center. On Monday, Oct. 7, the Victorville District Attorney’s office filed felony charges against Shields for PC 245(a)(1), assault with a deadly weapon.

Deputies arrest man on suspicion of arson and vandalism
On Tuesday, Oct. 8, Deputy Rogelio Torres was on patrol in the city of Loma Linda when he was flagged down in reference to a subject in the vacant lot at Redlands Boulevard at Richardson Avenue. The location was previously a drive-in theatre and there were multiple small brush fires burning on the property.
As Torres entered the property, he contacted a subject, later identified as Jose David Calderon, 35 of Redlands. When Torres tried to detain Calderon, Calderon armed himself with a rock and bottle. Calderon threw the items at Torres and ran toward Interstate 10, then toward Mountain View Avenue.
Deputies arrived and set up a perimeter with the assistance of Sheriff’s Aviation. Deputies located Calderon near the eastbound off-ramp of Interstate 10. During the confrontation, Calderon damaged a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department patrol unit before being detained and taken into custody.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Bombs and Arson Division and the Loma Linda Fire Department Fire Investigators responded to the location to assist with the arson investigation. Calderon was booked at Central Detention Center where he remains in custody in lieu of $100,000.00 bail. He was charged with PC 451, arson; PC243(C), assault on a peace officer; and PC 594(A), vandalism.

Vandalism investigation leads to arrest of Phelan man found in possession of multiple firearms
On Friday, Sept. 27, at 8:42 a.m., Deputy J. Ballinger responded to the report of vandalism at Veterans Armory, located at 3936 Phelan Road in Phelan. According to the owner, the business had been vandalized on multiple occasions. The suspect placed an epoxy substance on the lock of the entry door, breaking the lock. They also sprayed an adhesive with the intention of covering the surveillance cameras.
During the investigation, Deputy Ballinger was able to identify the suspect as Gregory Stephen Lamb, 69 of Phelan. On Thursday, Oct. 10, at 6:47 a.m., detectives and deputies from the Victor Valley Station, with the assistance of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Specialized Enforcement Division (SED), served a search warrant at Lamb’s residence in the 5300 block of Avenal Street in Phelan.
During service of the warrant, Lamb was found in possession of 38 firearms, including AR-15 assault rifles and home-manufactured, unserialized guns. High-capacity magazines of various styles, an illegal suppressor to silence a gun, 75,000 to 100,000 rounds of ammunition and flechette dart ammunition were located.
Lamb, who was also wanted on outstanding felony warrants for vandalism and terrorist threats, was arrested without incident and booked at the High Desert Detention Center. He was charged with PC 594, vandalism; PC 30210(a), possession of bullets containing an explosive agent; PC 32310(a), possession of high-capacity magazines; PC 30605(a), possession of an assault weapon; and PC 24610, manufacturing undetectable firearms.
