Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home in the 600 block of Arth Drive in Crestline around 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30 on a report of a 45-year-old Crestline man threatening to assault family members and burn down their three-story residence.

Upon arrival, deputies from the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station found Clifton William Bedore barricaded inside the home and refusing to come out.

Bedore, who is no stranger to local authorities, has a record of previous violent behavior involving family members and sheriff’s deputies, dating back to the mid-1990s. Before their arrival, Bedore had armed himself with an improvised incendiary device and threatened to use it against anyone who ascended the stairs.

Upon arrival, deputies found Bedore, who had already assaulted his brother with a two-by-four and dumbells after reportedly arguing over a cellphone and the care of their elderly mother.

Next, authorities said, Bedore barricaded himself and threatened to burn the house down. While deputies spoke with Bedore, other deputies evacuated the victim and his elderly mother to awaiting medical personnel for transport to a local hospital for medical treatment. Nearby neighbors said they often heard yelling and loud arguments emanating from the Bedore residence.

During initial negotiations with Bedore, he ignited his incendiary device and threatened to use it against the deputies, if they attempted to arrest him. He also reportedly poured what was believed to be an accelerant on the floor and loaded a firearm. The Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division was called in, established communications and continued negotiations with Bedore. Following some four hours of negotiating, Bedore surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. He was then interviewed and transported to a local hospital for a pre-booking medical examination and booked at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

While confirming that Bedore had been contacted by sheriff’s deputies multiple times in the past, when asked to describe the nature of the alleged incendiary device, Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station PIO Lyndsi Garrett said she was not at liberty to discuss that. However, when asked about the firearm, Garrett said multiple pieces of property had been removed.

Bedore faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon (ADW) PC245 (a) (1) and assault against a peace officer PC 245 (C). If convicted of felony assault with a deadly weapon, Bedore could be sentenced to four years in prison and a $10,000 fine. A felony conviction for ADW against a peace officer would be a prison term of four to eight years.
