Patricia Ann Crudup passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, at 79 after a courageous battle with cancer. She grew up in Illinois and was valedictorian of her high school class in Franklin and was a graduate of St. John’s Nursing School in 1966.
Pat dedicated over 40 years to nursing at Loma Linda Medical Center, working primarily in surgery and advancing into management roles. She received numerous awards for her commitment. Pat was managing nurse in 1984 on the groundbreaking “Baby Fae” heart transplant. She was regularly on-call during Space Shuttle landings as her hospital was also a world-class burn and trauma unit.
Pat loved living in Crestline, where she moved in 1976. She stayed until her retirement, when she moved to the Yucaipa area, a period of over 40 years. She was a devoted and loyal friend to the entire community. It was not rare for a friend or stranger to call Pat for routine or emergency medical advice. Pat selflessly responded at any hour of the day. On occasion, she maked house calls or transported people to emergency services.
For a number of years, Pat took weekend call at Mountains Community Hospital, becoming an invaluable member of their staff.
Pat will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and radiant smile. She was an avid book reader, devoted mother to her children, Jeremy and Maggie, a proud grandmother, a beloved sister, aunt and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength and love.
Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Loma Linda at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 8 at 10 am. The family apologizes for the late notice but arrangements were not confirmed until October 31.
