Deputies arrest Crestline man after he assaults family

On Oct. 30, Clifton Bedore, 45 of Crestline, allegedly assaulted the victim, his brother, with a 2×4 and dumbbells after they argued over a cell phone and the care of their elderly mother. Bedore barricaded himself on the third story of their residence and threatened to burn the house down.

Before deputies arrived at the location, Bedore armed himself with an improvised incendiary device and threatened to use it against anyone who attempted to go up the stairs.

While deputies spoke with Bedore, deputies evacuated the victim and his elderly mother to awaiting medical personnel for transportation to a local hospital for medical treatment.

During the deputy’s initial negotiations with Bedore, he ignited his improvised incendiary device and threatened to use it against deputies if they tried to arrest him. Bedore also poured what was believed to be an accelerant on the floor and loaded a firearm.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division responded, established communications and negotiated with Bedore. After approximately four hours, Bedore surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. Bedore was interviewed, transported to a local hospital for a pre-booking medical exam and booked at West Valley Detention Center. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon (Penal Code 245(a)(1) and assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, Penal Code 245(c).

Sheriff’s smash and grab operation nets five arrests and recovers over $7,000 in merchandise

Between the weeks of Oct. 12 and Oct. 25, investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department – Gangs/Narcotics Division, Rancho Cucamonga Station, San Bernardino County Probation Department, Homeland Security Investigations, California Highway Patrol and the San Bernardino Police Department conducted a retail theft operation throughout San Bernardino County. During the operation, investigators made five felony arrests, 13 misdemeanor arrests and recovered $7,075.68 in property.

In November 2023, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department became concerned with the rise in thefts at retail stores, which often involved organized crews that conspire to commit robberies, burglaries, shelve sweeps and vandalisms. These violent criminals terrorize the citizens of San Bernardino County by utilizing intimidation tactics and a mob mentality that creates an unsafe and uncomfortable shopping environment for our residents.

Operation Smash & Grab focuses its efforts on the Rancho Cucamonga, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Victorville and Chino Hills shopping districts to disrupt and dismantle these retail store theft crews. Investigators utilize conventional and non-conventional investigative methods to accomplish this task and lessen the blight created by these bad actors.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors authorized funds to assist with county-wide crime suppression. The intent is to provide additional funding to the Sheriff’s Department, allowing for increased law enforcement services related to quality-of-life issues affecting the communities in our county.
