Claremont man arrested for animal cruelty involving birds at Lake Gregory

In November 2024, deputies from the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station received a report of subjects throwing rocks at ducks at Lake Gregory. Witnesses took video of the incident, which depicted Jeremey Jansen, 36 of Claremont, injuring an egret by hitting it with a rock. A second subject broke the bird’s neck to ease its suffering.

From the video and witness statements, investigators were able to identify the involved subjects.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, investigators contacted Jansen at his primary residence in Claremont and confirmed he was the subject in the video. Jansen was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for Penal Code 597(a), animal cruelty; and Fish and Game Code 3800(a), killing of nongame bird.

Anyone with information about this investigation (Case No. 052401621) is encouraged to contact Deputy Ian Buchowiecki or Deputy Omar Romero-Rios of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department at (909) 336-0600.
