The annual, free Crestlights home or business lighting contest for the Crest Forest area began accepting entries on Saturday, Nov. 16. Everyone who wants to be involved may submit an entry until Dec. 5. This is the sixth year for the home and business lighting and decorating competition.

This competition is done in a festive spirit to encourage spreading holiday joy throughout the mountain by illuminating the community with holiday lights on residences and businesses. “Our communities are so filled with love at this time of year. Let’s spread our holiday cheer by decorating our homes and businesses for all to share,” said Grayson Lopez, Crestlights coordinator.

This contest was created to recognize those who, yearly, make the Crestline community sparkle with holiday joy because it lifts the spirits of those who see them. It is easy to be involved and anyone who already likes to decorate and puts up exterior lighting for the holidays is invited to enter the free contest.

This decorating is done in joy, but there will be small trophies and recognition for winning. Judging will be on Friday night, Dec. 6 and Saturday night, Dec. 7, weather permitting. There are two categories in which to enter, residence or business. There will be three winners in each category, with each winner receiving a trophy. Last year, while driving around judging the contest, the judges saw several beautiful homes, elegantly lit, that had not registered, so they sadly could not win. They hope this year everyone registers, so they may win.

“I hope Crestlights makes Crestline the sparkling Christmas jewel of the mountaintop again this year,” added Lopez.

Even homes with only one string of lights should register since they can be on the Crestlights map. It is hoped folks begin registering soon, so Lopez can create a small map of those who are participating by Dec. 11, enabling everyone to be able to drive around and enjoy the many decorated homes and businesses. The winners will be announced online and in the Alpine Mountaineer in the Dec. 12 issue so folks will have two weeks to see the festive lights on the winning homes.

It is easy and free to enroll in the Crestlights competition. Call Lopez at (714) 768-9683 with the address and phone number of the decorated location and category or email him with the information at GFLopezJr@Gmail.com.

The Crestlights contest will be judged between sunset and 9 p.m. on Dec. 6 and 7, weather permitting. Each person registered who leaves an email address or phone number will be notified of the approximate day and time of their judging so they can turn on all the lights and “bells and whistles.”  Deadline for registration is Dec. 5.

“Make this town a winner and let it shine with your beautiful sparkling lights and become a winner yourself by signing up for the Crestlights contest,” added Lopez.
