For more than 30 years, the artisans of Green Valley Lake have opened their studios to visitors on three weekends: Memorial Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving.

From candles to watercolors, fabric casserole holders to sterling silver jewelry, tie-dyed garments to crocheted hats and scarves – guests will find unique gifts for friends and family or for themselves.

On Thanksgiving weekend I visited several of the artisans on the tour and ticked off several gifts on my Christmas list.

Sandy Ellis has participated in the tour for many years. Her crocheted hats, scarves and afghans are beautifully made and just the thing to keep us warm.

Judy Gomez displayed her embroidered Green Valley Lake pillows and her key fobs at Ellis’ home. All proceeds from her sales went to the community garden in town, as did donations made for scarves created by a local weaver.

I always enjoy stopping at Sharon DiSanto’s home. She offers a variety of useful fabric products, including the little pouches I find perfect for holding gift cards. Also at her house was Kym Browning of Falling Leaf Studio, who creates gorgeous jewelry.

At Juniper Soy Candles, Emily Nohr – who coordinates the tour with DiSanto – had candles in a variety of scents. Some were poured into little pots created by Lake Mud Pottery in Crestline.

If you missed the Thanksgiving tour, mark your calendars for Memorial Day weekend. And watch for other events taking place in Green Valley Lake by the community garden.
