This holiday season marked the return of the annual Running Springs Christmas light contest after a few years’ hiatus.

The Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce ran the event and took entries from Running Springs and Green Valley Lake. Eight homes entered the contest and each put on a beautiful display. Sherry Bridgeford, the chamber member in charge of the event, put together a group of judges, both from the chamber and outside of it.

The award for Best Decorated home went to Sue Grove, with Overall Most Creative going to JJ Johnson. Grove’s impressive display covered nearly her entire home, able to be seen from any angle. Johnson’s innovative show used a digital light system which was coordinated with a radio station to play in time with the music.

In a Facebook post, Johnson thanked the chamber “for recognizing the hours of work we put into our display.” He added, “thank you to all of you who come and share in the joy of Christmas at our home on Circle View. It has been a rough couple of years for all of us up here on the mountain and my hope is that our display will bring some moments of joy to your life.”

The post went on: “And I can’t thank my neighborhood enough for putting up with all the traffic and crazy flashing lights. You are the best. We truly love our community and encourage all of you to support all of our local businesses.”

Unfortunately, no businesses entered the contest but the chamber hopes to have more participants next year.
