Mountain Musings with Uncle Mott -Time

Now that Christmas has come and gone, like Boxing Day…No, it’s not a day set aside to honor Muhammad (“I am the Greatest”)Ali; it’s a day set aside to get rid of all of the unsightly, leftover Christmas gift boxes strewn throughout the stately Motley Manor. In the meantime, the cats are having fun hiding in them. I’ve been meaning to get rid of them (not the cats, the boxes) but I just haven’t had time, what with all these parades and fires I have to write about every week.

As I grow older, it seems like time is moving faster and faster, thus leaving me less time to get stuff done in time, like this weekly musing that’s due tomorrow morning. If time would move slower, I might have more time to complete important projects in a timely manner.

Time, flowing like a river, time beckoning me. Who knows when we shall meet again, if ever, but time keeps flowing, like a river, to the sea. (“Time” – Allan Parsons Project – 1981)

With time rushing past me, I feel like it’s moving closer to my ultimate demise…hey, slow down, I’m in no hurry to be demised…hmm, is there such a word as demised? I need to look it up in my Funk & Wagnall.

So, as I move ever closer to my demise, me and the Missus  headed out to Laughlin to ring in the new year at Aquarius Casino, overlooking the Colorado River. Hey, have you made a New Year’s resolution? What is a New Year’s resolution, you ask? I’ll tell you what it is: It’s something that goes in one year and out the other.

Do you stay awake until midnight to watch the ball drop at Times Square? This year’s Dick Clark’s (already demised) Rockin’ New Year’s Eve countdown will be hosted by Ryan Seacrest (not demised). By the way, yes there is such a word as demised, but it’s not what you think. According to Funk & Wagnall, demised is actually a legal term referring to conveyance of property by will or lease.

How about that Rose Parade, wasn’t it special? Hey, what does the Rose Parade have in common with Santa Claus? Answer: No one is ever awake to see them, including me. Ha, ha, made you laugh.

Until we meet again… time keeps flowing like a river to the sea.

Keep it flyin’,
Uncle Mott

Mountain Musings with Uncle Mott: Summer Breeze

Mountain Musings with Uncle Mott: The High Cost of Commodities

Have you noticed how cheap gasoline is, of late? Perhaps I will re-word that one. Gas isn’t exactly cheap. (That’s right, but I am, cheap that is). I must say, six or seven bucks a gallon surely ain’t cheap. However, I’ve seen at least one gas station in Crestline...

Mountain Musings with Uncle Mott: Commercials You Love to Hate

I find it annoying when TV networks advertise products I’m not interested in, such as to lower your life insurance costs. Like this dude named Johnathan who advertises every 10 minutes promoting life insurance for only $9.95 a month. A man says, “I’m over 50, what’s...
