On New Year’s Eve – Dec. 31, 2024 – a crew from Green Valley Lake Fire Station 95 was dispatched to what became known as the Creek Fire.

Arriving first on the scene, the firefighters discovered a fire that was approximately 40 feet by 40 feet. It had spread from a backpacker’s illegal campfire that got out of control.

GVL 95 stopped the forward rate of spread at a quarter-acre and contained the fire until other units arrived with additional water.

Forest Service engines and Running Spring E51 were also on scene and supported the suppression efforts with additional hand crews and water.

The fire was located one-third of a mile northeast of Forest Road 2N13 and Forest Road 2N19A, east of Green Valley Lake.

“Thank goodness we train for things like this and we were able to stop it from spreading very quickly,” was GVL95’s comment on Facebook.
