Dr. Fillmore Smiley and Lori Thomas – with some of Rosenda “Rose” Smiley’s friends – at the Crestline Café. Owner Amber Crubaugh donated a portion of the proceeds from dinners on Sunday, Jan. 12 to benefit Rose’s memorial legacy fund. The then-14-year-old girl was killed on May 25, 2024, by a drunk driver in Newport Beach. Dr. Smiley is working with Assemblyman Tom Lackey on drunk driving reform legislation. He and his family have been placing memorial benches at the schools Rose attended – Charles Hoffman Elementary and Mary Putnam Henck Intermediate – and would have attended – Rim of the World High School.
