For a number of years, the intersection between the 210 East and Waterman Avenue has been discussed at the Lake Arrowhead Municipal Advisory Council meetings.
The issue? During rush hour and other busy times, traffic backs up onto the 210 as there is just one exit lane off the freeway.
Improvements are now underway by the City of San Bernardino in partnership with the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA).
According to Michael Martinez, a public information officer with Caltrans, this is “an oversight project for us. We just help SBCTA with any type of outreach for this project, but they are the ones conducting all the work.”

Motorists will notice work being done at the intersection of Waterman Avenue and the 210 freeway.
The project will widen the eastbound on ramp from Waterman Avenue to the 210 to two lanes. It will also restripe the Waterman Avenue overcrossing to provide two left-turn lanes in each direction.
Jas Hampal, the public information officer for the project, said that Caltrans, in the coming years, will widen the eastbound off ramp to the Waterman Avenue overcrossing from two lanes to three lanes. That project is expected to begin in late 2025, dependent on weather.
During construction, Waterman Avenue will remain open at all times; however, there will be periodic lane closures to accommodate the construction. Periodic closures will also be required on the eastbound on ramp to the 210 Freeway, with planned detours routing drivers to Del Rosa Avenue.
The project, which started in mid-January, is expected to be completed in November 2025.
