All middle school-aged students – whether home-schooled, in private or church school or at Mary Putnam Henck Intermediate School – are invited to come have fun together at a free dance designed for them.
The dance, sponsored by the Rim Communities For Youth (RCFY) and the Rim of the World Recreation and Park District, has as its theme Willie Wonka presents a “Golden Ticket Party.” The dance will be on Friday, Feb. 21, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and centrally located for all mountain communities at the Twin Peaks Community Center.
This is the fourth year these two organizations have worked together to offer this community dance for all middle schoolers, giving them a “golden ticket” chance to make new friends and have lots of fun in a safe environment. The dance will feature a live DJ playing some “sweet” tunes, plus they will have some games and activities and free refreshments. Since the theme is WillyWonka, there will be candy, plus the kids are encouraged to either “dress to impress” or in their favorite Willy Wonka-themed garb.
This yearly dance is an effort by RCFY to give students a healthy environment in which to connect together, with the other members of the mountain communities of their own age. The dance will be chaperoned by RCFY personnel and screened volunteers. There is no charge for the event, the activities or the refreshments. Just come and have fun.
Rim Communities For Youth is a local coalition located in Skyforest operating under the umbrella of Rim Family Services’ Environmental Prevention Program, whose mission is to reduce underage use and access to drugs and alcohol. Some of their counselors remember growing up in the mountains and reflect that often young teens can’t find anything fun to do and then get bored with life, resulting in experimenting with adult beverages and drugs to fill their time. This dance is but one of RCFY’s youth activities. RCFY also sponsors the Game of Skate and other events throughout the year, offering things for the youth of the community to do.
There is no RSVP required; middle-schoolers should just come and bring their friends. For additional information, call (909) 3360-1800.
RCFY says to “join us for the Golden Ticket – a free, unforgettable teen dance event! Get ready to dance the night away, make new friends and enjoy awesome music in a fun, safe space. Don’t miss out on the ultimate night of beats, laughter and memories.”
