The Rim Blue Star Moms installed five Hometown Hero banners on Feb. 4.

The Blue Star Moms present were President Tracy Williams, 2VP Nadia Phillips, Financial Secretary and Banner Chair Alma Diaz, Recording Secretary Brenda Shingleton and Treasurer Sandi DeMarco.

The banners, created by NeuArt Studio in Rimforest, were installed free of charge by Josh Snyder, owner of Big Top Tree Company. He was assisted by John.

The recipients were as follows:

  • Andrew Newman, Navy, in front of the McDonalds in Crestline. His banner was damaged during Snowmageddon so it was replaced.
  • William Shingleton, Space Force (first one from this branch), in Blue Jay in front of Coldwell Banker. William is stationed in Colorado Springs. His parents, Brenda and Rick Shingleton were present for the installation.
  • Julia Hill, Navy, in the Jensen’s parking lot. She is stationed in Mississippi. Michael Lee’s banner, which hung in that spot, was retired and presented to his mother, Jennifer Lee.
  • David Granados, Marine, in Blue Jay in front of Blue Jay Burger. David is stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
  • Kevin Fusilier, Air Force, in Cedar Glen in front of the gas station. Kevin is stationed in Monterey. His wife, Katie, young son, Frank, and mother-in-law, Julie, were present.

The Blue Star Mother organization is made up of mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, guard or reserves or whose children are veterans.

The members support each other and their children while promoting patriotism.

There are more than 200 chapters throughout the national with nearly 6,000 members. The main project of the Rim Blue Star Moms is the Hometown Hero banners. Each banner costs $375. Moms can volunteer 25 hours of service to earn it or pay the fee. We encourage community groups to donate toward this project.

Additional projects include packing military care packages twice a year; serving at local veteran events such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Loma Linda VA Vets fishing trip; placing wreaths at Riverside National Cemetery with the Wreaths Across America program; and sending Valentines to our military. We have a display case at Rim High highlighting our local military sons and daughters. We participate in local community parades such as the Blue Jay Christmas parade, Crestline Jam Days parade, and Running Springs Mountain Top Days parade.

For more information, visit rimbluestarmoms.org or contact President Tracy Williams at president.ca25@bluestarmothers.us or (909) 754-8905.

Moms interested in joining our group can sign up on the national website and attend our monthly meetings on the first Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge in Rimforest.
