It’s 6 a.m. and my husband has just left for his commute down the hill. I take my first sip of coffee – hot, sweet, topped with Italian sweet cream foam – just as I check my emails for any overnight transaction fires. One email immediately catches my eye. A client had a 2 a.m. panic attack about his escrow, worried that repairs won’t be done in time for his move-in. I type out a thoughtful but factual response – nearly identical to the one I sent him a few days ago – and hit send.
It’s 6:20 a.m. I’m still in my pajamas and I’m already working.
After reviewing my schedule, I see a coaching session with a new real estate agent, a mastermind call with top team leaders from across the U.S. and a listing appointment in Crestline. My color-coded time-blocked calendar has some breathing room today, so I take my time getting ready before heading to our new office.
Oh yeah – big news. A few months ago, I changed brokerages and set out to open my own. It’s been a whirlwind of logistics, legal work and nonstop coordination, but the office is nearly finished and our grand opening is just around the corner (and yes, you’re invited).
At the office, I check in with my operations manager, Cathy, during our daily huddle. We review all active transactions, paperwork that needs to go out and today’s closing gifts she’s arranging for delivery. Then, I jump onto Zoom for a coaching session with a new agent. He’s on a tight budget, so we strategize ways he can generate leads without breaking the bank.
After a quick bite, I log into my second Zoom of the day with my mastermind group. We brainstorm creative ways to market listings that aren’t getting traction. There’s a lot of collaboration and problem-solving – real estate is always evolving, and staying ahead means being adaptable.
With a short break in my schedule, I dive into my unread emails. In the last four hours alone, I’ve received 42 messages – buyer inquiries, seller follow-ups and weekend showing requests. I prioritize, respond and set appointments.
An hour before my listing appointment, I check the MLS for updates. A comparable home in the area just had a price reduction, which could be a key talking point.
The listing appointment in Crestline goes well. My client is receptive to the market data and is ready to move forward. We electronically sign everything on the spot and I schedule photography and videography for the next day.
By 6 p.m., I’m home, playing with my dog and prepping dinner. My husband and I sit down, talk about our day and decide what to watch on Hulu.
At 7:30 p.m., my phone rings. I don’t usually take calls this late, but it’s my anxious client from this morning. He just wanted to say thanks; he’s feeling much better.
As I get ready for bed, I reflect on the day with gratitude. It wasn’t a high-drama day, but I helped people navigate their real estate journeys, big and small.
It’s not a glamorous life, but I love what I do.
