The Crestline Chamber of Commerce held its monthly public meeting on Feb. 18 with a full house of community members attending as they learned about the spring and summer upcoming activities and events.

The first event is occurring this Saturday, March 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the San Moritz Lodge. Crestline’s Mardi Gras on the Mountain will try to be as New Orleans-style as possible so attendees are encouraged to come in costume – don’t forget your beads. Fabulous Mardi Gras decorations are being fashioned by Bizzyland.

Local magician Zac Swan will be performing close-up magic, all evening long. There will be New Orleans-style food from Chicken Republic and two bands, one of which is a 10-piece jazz band, to encourage everyone to dance the night away. There will be raffles, gift baskets and 12 beer and wine vendors to taste, included in the entrance price. At Tuesday’s meeting it was announced that it appears a few tickets will remain for sale at the door. Come in costume to this adults-only beer and wine tasting event, the first Crestline Corks & Hops event of the new year.

The chamber is still seeking Mardi Gras volunteers to set up and tear down the event. Those interested can sign up on the www.Crestlinechamber.com website, or just show up Friday night, Feb. 28 and help from 4 to 9 p.m. at the San Moritz Lodge.

The chamber will be conducting a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new store Earth Elements at the corner of Lake Drive and Thousand Pines Road at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 14. The community is invited to come to the ribbon-cutting and also to just stop in the store and see all the fascinating items for sale. There are crystals, rocks, gifts and much more. The store’s patio is also an announcing platform for the Jamboree Days parade.

The Duck Derby has been moved from March to June this year because it has been canceled or postponed the last three of four years due to snow. This year the ducks will be able to swim down the water slide at Lake Gregory after the lake closes for the afternoon on Sunday, June 29. Duck trainers can come and watch their ducks cross the finish line, hopefully first for the $1,000.00 prize or second for $500, third for $250 or even last for $100.

To get ready for the Duck Derby, there will be a “duck counting party” on March 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. All the numbered ducks will be counted to verify they exist and are healthy and ready to race. Those who volunteer for this evening of duck counting will enjoy some pizza while having fun getting together.

The Duck Derby, a fundraiser for the fireworks that will be shot off on July 5 over Lake Gregory, will be held after the Community Picnic on June 29.  During the Community Picnic, which will be held on the San Moritz Field, there will be bounce houses, relay races, food vendors and artisans. The Community Picnic is held the weekend before Jamboree Days; it is hoped it will be well attended by locals having great fun together before the summer visitors arrive. Goodwin‘s Market will be one of the ticket-selling locations.

Dirk Rinker shared some insights into what to expect this Jamboree Days and all the fun that is being planned on Saturday, July 5. Invite your friends for the parade at 10 a.m. There will be booths in town all day with a kids’ zone, and fireworks over the lake that evening at 9 p.m. KOLA-FM 99.9 radio will have a booth where folks can meet one of their DJs.

Ken Williams of San Marzano will again be brewing a special “Hazy Beer” for fireworks fundraising, which will again be available at the local bars on tap. He is seeking some helpers to brew the beer; if you are interested, contact him at KenWilliams@icloud.com.

The Brawlin Brews live championship belt wrestling match will occur on April 26 at the South Beach pavilion at Lake Gregory. During this free admission event, there will be inflatable games and bounce houses with live bands, artisans, food vendors and a beer and wine garden. Visit www.brawlinbrews.com for more information.

The annual Run through the Pines footrace is expecting 400 runners to run around the lake on the second Saturday in August. The Rim Park and Rec District is sponsoring the event and is inviting local businesses that want to add to the goodie bag and encourage the runners to shop at their businesses after the run to contact them and get involved at www.Rim-rec.org.
