After some back and forth with the Rim of the World Recreation and Park District, the Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce agreed to the terms of a new lease.
The chamber leases space in the Hootman Center to use as their office and to hold their monthly meetings. The new lease – at $400 per month – includes the use of that space as well as utilities.
President Kevin Somes noted the chamber had offered to pay part of the upkeep for the restrooms in town. “Rec and Park said it’s their property and they will maintain it,” he said.
“I talked to my board at our last meeting,” said Jenny Hueter, the Rec and Park general manager and a member of the chamber board. “They feel it is the park district’s responsibility to clean and maintain them. We will take over complete management of them.”

Chamber members and guests played games during the baby shower. In the Late Night Diapers game, they wrote message to Paola and Jordan to read during late-night changes.
Hueter added they will put signs on the restrooms, letting folks know where they can obtain tokens to open the doors. “We will open the restrooms soon and let you know how it goes,” she said.
The annual town clean-up day will be held on April 26, starting at 9:00 a.m. That will also be opening day for the farmers market. Cathy Clemens, who manages the market, said 35 vendors have already said they will be participating.
In his president’s report, Somes said he had met with Brad Lofland of SkyPark at Santa’s Village. “He is the ring leader on the TBID (Tourism Business Improvement District),” Somes said. They are looking at ways the chambers can work together to promote tourism.
The chamber is also promoting membership in an effort to bump up into the next tier for the TOT (Transient Occupancy Tax) marketing grant. Somes suggested the Membership committee might consider dropping the cost during the reporting period, something the Wrightwood chamber has done.
The board meeting was adjourned in a timely manner as everyone was anticipating the baby shower they had planned for board member Jordan Zarate and his wife, Paola. The couple is expecting their first child in April.
The guests enjoyed cupcakes and played several games, including Late Night Diapers.
“We wrote notes on diapers so, when they are doing their late-night changes, they will enjoy our wit!” said Sherry Bridgeford. Some of the popular sayings were “Cover the fountain,” “Who needs sleep anyway,” “Daddy duty” and “Bottoms up!”
