On Sunday, March 23, a gas leak at Mountains Community Hospital was cause for an evacuation.

A third-party company was working on the back of the hospital property and accidentally hit a gas line shortly before 10 a.m. Staff smelled gas, and immediately called a Code Triage to evacuate the hospital and medical office building. By 10:05 a.m., all patients and staff had been successfully and safely evacuated.

San Bernardino County Fire, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office out of Twin Peaks and SoCalGas all arrived on scene to inspect the leak. By 10:42 a.m., the fire department gave the all clear, confirming it was safe for patients and staff to re-enter the buildings.

“It’s a fabulous success story,” said Teri Peña, COO of Mountains Community Hospital, via email. “We are proud of our team’s efforts in successfully evacuating our Skilled Nursing residents, a surgical patient and family member, Med/Surg, emergency room and physical therapy patients. While it could have been a much more devastating event, everyone is safe, and we are back to business as usual.”
