Goodwin’s Market has launched a new customer loyalty program to provide its customers with a way to earn points on their purchases, which can turn into dollars, receive digital coupons and get access to special discounts.

“The response from our customers has been really good,” said Mike Johnstone, Goodwin’s vice president and general manager.

Johnstone said he and his team did a lot of searching for an app that was easy to use and could work either in the market on the new touchscreen terminals or on customers’ cellphones or computers after they downloaded the app.

“We found a company that works with independent markets and has a good success record,” he said.

The company is AppCard, a New York-based company that works with a variety of retailers. It has an artificial intelligence component to it which helps learn a shopper’s preferences.

The company’s website reports that “AppCard is an advanced customer retention system designed specifically to service the needs of mid-size retailers, franchises and independent grocers who are ready to start capitalizing on the potential of their customer data and analytics.”

“We really liked the flexibility that AppCard offers,” Johnstone added. “It can work from the terminal pin pad at each checkout lane, from a customer’s cell phone or from their home laptop or computer. We feel it adds value to our customer’s shopping experience.”

The AppCard is only available at Goodwin’s Crestline store.

“It went live last week and we’re still working out a few bugs but, overall, we’re very happy with the customer loyalty program through AppCard,” Johnstone said.

Goodwin’s also offers online ordering with in-store pickup for the deli and coffee/juice bar. Customers can order ahead and have it ready in as little as 15 minutes. The service is available daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
