Visiting businesses around the town that make up the Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce is not a new concept.
Kevin Somes, the chamber’s president, said it’s something he used to do years ago with the late Joan Moseley. “She called it street walking,” he quipped.
“We owe it to the business community to see how things are going, hear their comments,” Somes said at the chamber’s April 8 meeting.
Several members of the chamber’s board agreed with Somes that this is a great idea, something they want to work on making happen.
In an update on the public restrooms, board member Jenny Hueter said that Rec and Park – who has taken responsibility for maintaining the restrooms – has hoped to open them early “but they needed to be cleaned inside and out.”
The new locks are in. Businesses who wish to participate in the program will be given tokens to pass out to folks needing to use the restrooms. The token boxes at the restrooms will be emptied out once a week and the tokens will be redistributed to the participating businesses.
While Hueter said that “everyone has to work together to keep them clean,” she added that Rec and Park would like to have the restrooms deep cleaned every couple of months.
There will be a sign on the restrooms indicating where tokens are available. There will also be signs posted with the rules and times the restrooms will be open.
The lease between the chamber and Rec and Park is being updated, Somes said. “It’s a good lease,” he noted. “We appreciate the help of Jenny and the Rec and Park board.” He will share the updated lease with the board once he receives it.
In upcoming events, the chamber is holding an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 19 for children ages 1 to 11. It will take place on the field where the farmers market is held.
The farmers market will hold its grand opening of the year and a ribbon cutting on Saturday, April 26. That day is also the town clean-up day. People interested in participating should meet on Commercial Way at 9:00 a.m. Folks wishing to help clean up Green Valley Lake should meet at the post office at 9:00 a.m.
The chamber is already looking ahead to Mountaintop Days. The parade and after party will take place on Friday, Aug. 1 with games and the farmers market on Aug. 2.
The Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Hootman Center and on Zoom.
