For a number of years, members of the Mountain Arts Network have collaborated with the art department at Rim of the World High School, inviting the students to submit their work in three categories. Those members then judge the work and award prizes to the students at a reception in the gallery in Lake Arrowhead Village.

That reception took place on Saturday, April 19. As Dave Ficke announced the winners, he commented that “this year there was a lot of fun artwork.”

Unfortunately, the majority of the winning students were not able to be present due to the Easter holiday weekend.

In ceramics – taught at the high school by Jason Stehmeier – third place went to Jamilet Chavez Barboza, second place to Emily Iles and first place to Audrey Siples. Jamilet was present to receive her certificate, ribbon and check.

In mixed media – taught by Morgan Stehmeier – third place went to Nola Ruda, second place to Nina Hidajat and first place to Shelby Gross, who was present.

And in photography – taught by Kristel Cobb – third place went to Jazmin Bahena, second place to Amelia Garcia and first place to Phobe Steward.

Best of Show was awarded to the photograph taken by Sky Maddox.

The three teachers were present to congratulate their students. Ficke asked for a round of applause for them and the inspiration they provide.

On the Mountain Arts Network website, the members say that they are “proud of supporting the arts at Rim of the World High School.” They added they looked forward to the “creativity and imagination that inspires the Rim art students.”

The students’ work will be on display in the gallery, located lakeside in the Village, through the month of May.
