Memorial Day weekend begins the summer season in these mountains. As the weather usually warms up by that time, most organizations, businesses and activities open their doors and welcome visitors and residents to their activities.
Friday, May 23
The Crestline Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to the grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony of its new visitors center at 24385 Lake Drive, Crestline at 9 a.m.
The free Mountain History Museum at 27176 Peninsula Drive at Rhine Road in Lake Arrowhead will open their doors for the summer and welcome visits until 4 p.m.
On Friday night, music is the word. The free Market at Lake Gregory with Friday night concerts begins from 4 to 8 p.m. with music vendors and food in the North Shore parking lot with music by the Viper and the Deckhands on the patio concert stage. This Friday night market and concert will repeat every Friday all summer long; after the beach opens for daily summer use, the concerts move to under the pavilion on the south shore.
More concerts: SkyPark’s summer concert series Tunes in the Trees begins on Friday night, May 23 with Generation Idol (Billy Idol tribute band) from at 7 to 9 p.m. These concerts will continue every Friday night all summer long.
The Lake Arrowhead Village concert series begins Friday on the peninsula with a Beatle tribute band, Britian’s Finest.
The Lake Arrowhead Co-op Preschool is holding a big parking lot sale at the Lake Arrowhead Community Presbyterian Church (351 Highway 173) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
At the Tudor House (800 Arrowhead Villas Road, Lake Arrowhead), The Music Never Ends will be stages with dinner at 5:30 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m.
Saturday May 24
The Lake Gregory Regional Park beach opens for summer use from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekend until it opens for daily use in mid-June. Entry to the beach area and use of the swimming end of the lake is $15 and only $15 additional for a full-day pass to the water slides and inflatable water park.
Friends of the Library book sale will take place at the library in Blue Jay (27235 Highway 189) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The AMVO Volunteer Recruitment Fair Day takes place at the San Moritz Lodge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, contact Alex at (323) 394-4052.
San Bernardino County Fire is offering free chipping at 24640 San Moritz Drive at the San Moritz Lodge from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring limbs and brush up to 15 inches in diameter and 10 feet in length.
The Lake Arrowhead Co-op Preschool will hold its second day of the “biggest parking lot sale” at 351 Highway 173 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Hilltop Haus in Running Springs (2651 Secret Drive) is celebrating the start of summer with “A Berry Sweet Summer,” 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free ice cream.
The Dogwood Fest will take place at the corner of Kuffel Canyon and Highway 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local artisans, music, food, drink.
Skate nights begin for the season at SkyPark at Santa’s Village. It’s Oldies Night from 7 to 9 p.m. Skates included with park admission or season passes.
The free Mountain History Museum will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The museum will continue to be open every Saturday and Sunday all summer long at 27176 Peninsula Drive at Rhine Road in Lake Arrowhead.
The Artisans of Green Valley Lake offer their annual three-day artisan home tour. Get a free map of the homes where the artisans are showing their handcrafted work to tour their homes from the local businesses. Saturday and Sunday hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Mountain Community Alliance will hold its rummage sale at the community garden in Green Valley Lake from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday.
Green Valley Lake is also open for the season for boating, fishing and swimming.
The Lake Arrowhead Village concert series continues on Saturday night with a Taylor Swift tribute band, “Romantics.” The concerts will continue all summer long; see www.lakearrowheadsummerconcerts.com for tickets.
Saturday night at Lake Gregory is Tacos and Tunes, 6 to 8 p.m. on the North Shore patio; free music and tacos and brews for sale.

Higher Grounds is sponsoring a coffee tasting presentation by Arcade Roasters at 1 p.m. They’ll share brewing tips, flavor notes and more. $15 a person.
Free chipping offered by San Bernardino County Fire from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 26010 Highway 189 in Twin Peaks.

“Honoring Our Nation’s Heros” at VFW Post 96245, 21841 Crest Forest Drive in Cedarpines Park at 4 p.m. Live music, 50/50 raffle.
The free Mountain History Museum at 27176 Peninsula Drive at Rhine Road in Lake Arrowhead will be open on Memorial Day from noon to 4 p.m.
The artisan studio tour continues on Green Valley Lake from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
