Molly’s Art Gallery and Studio will be celebrating many events coinciding with the ribbon cutting ceremony this Friday, June 13 at 9 a.m. at 24002 Lake Drive Crestline, across from Rim Bowling.
To complement the ribbon cutting, there will be wine tasing and appetizers. The art studio is celebrating an anniversary since its doors opened in 2024, plus inside the gallery is the Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso art exhibit.
The current display is from a couple of private collections and several are for sale. Seeing a real Picasso or Dali in person can be an emotional experience in and of itself. Molly Collins has showcased many local artists inside the gallery, including Jim Chrysler, Eli Rye, Nancy Neto and many of her own works.
Concurrently occurring in the gallery is a contest Collins has created: “Once Upon a Painting.” Community members or visitors can come into the gallery, take a photo of a painting that inspires them and write up to 1,000 words on the painting.
“It is a unique writing contest where visual art becomes the muse for written creativity,” Collins said. “I want you to step into a world of color, mystery and inspiration and then turn your favorite artworks into stories only you could write. Your story can be surreal, magical, mysterious or whimsical; it can describe the artwork, reimagine it or take it in a whole new direction,” she added.
Participants should submit their writing to Collins’ website, www.mollysartgallery.com, by July 15. Published authors will be the judges. There will be cash prizes in three categories: youth under 14, teens (15 to 17) and adults. Details are on the website.
“Sound Strokes” is a new aspect of art that Collins is creating. She is taking commissions for the “Sound Strokes” artistic creations which come with a MP-3 player that plays the music that inspired the painting. These art pieces are more than just a painting; they are a custom interpretation of art from music that inspired you.
“They are emotional frequencies in color. They are witnesses to the soul’s song,” said Collins. She has several examples in the gallery of these music-inspired artistic creations that can be purchased or she can create one inspired by the music of your personal choice that reflects your life experiences connecting life and love or trauma with comfort.
Collins has other activities planned for the summer at the gallery and in the community: weekly art lessons, monthly paint parties at Roadhouse Pizza, glow paint parties after the Friday night concerts at Lake Gregory, plein air excursions into the forest.
