Rim Special Athletes (RSA) began its summer season with a free trip to SkyPark for its members and their families. RSA also supplied a free lunch and there was lots of socialization.

“Thank you, Bill and May,” said Jack Cooperman, the RSA president. “Rim Special Athletes and their parents had a wonderful time at SkyPark.”

The attendees and their families got the opportunity to do all the fun activities in the park. For example, Becca was very happy, as were her parents, when she hit the bullseye at the hatchet throw. Others enjoyed all the activities the park has to offer, including archery and the new bicycle-powered monorail.

RSA offered a free pizza lunch with drinks and dessert for all their attendees. Cooperman helped “network” parents, helping them share their knowledge of summer activities, what RSA has to offer and other experiences the mountain offers in addition to RSA. “This is the time to get everyone involved in the activities that do exist for these adaptive kids,” Cooperman said.

The RSA summer lake activities began on Wednesday, June 11, at the beach area they have access to on Lake Arrowhead. The summer programs include swimming at the lake and using aqua toys such as kayaks, aqua cycles, SUPs and other water toys for participants and family members. RSA offers these free summer activities for local individuals with visual and hearing impairments, traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder, Down syndrome, autism, as well as other cognitive and physical disabilities.

RSA will have a float in the Jamboree Days parade in Crestline. RSA participants who would like to ride in the parade should contact Cooperman. After the parade, there will be a small socialization party with pizza for everyone.

Visit the RSA website at www.rimspecialathletes.com for more information on this free program and how to get involved.
