The weather was just perfect on Thursday morning, June 26 for sharing donuts, coffee and casual conversation with local law enforcement officials, outdoors, in front of the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station.

Law Enforcement Explorer Cody Leonard (R).
It all started at 8:30 a.m. when the Running Spring-based Coventina Coffee Company showed up and started brewing a wide assortment of fresh coffees, lattes, cappuccinos and herbal teas. The donuts and fresh pastries had arrived earlier.
When asked what sort of crimes are trending locally, Sheriff’s Station Commander Capt. Craig Harris warned that scam artists are continuing to call elderly people to warn them that they have an outstanding warrant and that they must pay a fine right away to avoid being arrested.
“Other than that, we’re working with the CHP on serving search warrants for drugs and weapons. We’re seeing a lot of narcotics arrests for illegal possession of meth, heroin and fentanyl,” Harris said, noting that, since school is out, they are finding juveniles violating the 10 p.m. curfew on weeknights and 11 p.m. curfew on weekends.
Cody Leonard, a 14-year-old Law Enforcement Explorer, said he was inspired to become an Explorer by his great-grandfather, who had served in the Korean incursion. Since enrolling in the program about six months ago, Cody said he had been going on ride-alongs with sheriff’s deputies, learning leadership skills and how to operate computers and walkie talkies.
“Pretty soon, I’ll be working the front desk,” Cody proudly proclaimed.
