Tragic Drowning Lake Arrowhead Reported by ALA

Jul 9, 2025 | Mountain Emergency Update

Dear Members,
It is with deep sadness that I report a tragic incident that occurred earlier yesterday, July 8, in the North Bay area of Lake Arrowhead.
According to reports, the incident involved an 18-year-old male who went underwater while swimming and did not resurface.  The situation was witnessed and reported promptly to 911. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBCSD), Fire Rescue, ALA Patrol, and lifeguards took swift action. Shortly thereafter, County Dive Teams arrived and conducted an extensive underwater search.
After more than an hour of search efforts, divers located and recovered the victim. He was transported to Mountain Community Hospital. At this time, the identity of the individual is being withheld out of respect for the family.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
We would also like to clarify that this tragic event should not be confused with a separate report of a possible drowning near the courtesy dock at Tavern Bay on Saturday.  That report involved a claim that a teenage female had struck her head on a dock and disappeared beneath the water. Staff and emergency personnel responded quickly and conducted an exhaustive search of the area. Thankfully, the report was determined to be false, and no victim was found.
Sincerely,
Mike Pate
General Manager
Arrowhead Lake Association
