The Crestline Lions Club will host their annual community appreciation day this weekend by giving away free hotdogs at Goodwin’s Market on the eastern side of their parking lot. The club gives a free hotdog with the fixings, including chips and lemonade, to any of the hundreds of residents and visitors who stop by their popup in the parking lot, across from Lake Gregory.
Just walk up, beginning at 11 a.m. and say hi. They will serve until they run out of hot dogs. They sincerely want to thank the community for supporting their many projects and service activities they do during the year. For those who are interested in Lions International, they can explain what a membership in the club could do for them. They hope to see you on Saturday, July 19.
The Crestline Lions Club is about to start a new year with new officers. They just held their installation dinner at the Elks Lodge in San Bernardino on Perris Hill, overlooking San Bernadino. Patty Barry was installed as president; Robert Ippolito, vice president; Kathy Ogaz, secretary; Bonnie Hawes, treasurer; Raymond Johnson, Lion Tamer; Roxann Haggard, Tail Twister; Philip Conway, bulletin editor; Catherine Johnson, LCIF chair; Barbara Rhodes and Maria Emert, directors.
During their installation ceremony, they presented the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award to Past President Elizabeth Hayes. This award can only be presented by a vote of the club’s membership for exceptional beneficial service to the community over a period of time. They presented the Community Partner Award to non-Lion Rhea-Frances Tetley for not only the support she gives the Crestline Lions Club but for all she does for the community.
One of the Lions’ annual district projects is for the Ronald McDonald House, which provides housing for families to stay in for free while their children are hospitalized. The Ronald McDonald House operates one of their facilities in Loma Linda, next to the Loma Linda Children’s Hospital. The Lions support it by saving aluminum soda pull tabs all year long. They are very grateful to the many residents who save their pull tabs and donate them to the club. Last year, Valley of Enchantment School had a contest to see which classroom could save the most. The Crestline Lions Club donated 128,166 pull tabs this last year to the Ronald McDonald House.
The first Friday of each month is Lions Bingo night at Leisure Shores for those 18 years of age and older. During June’s Bingo night, attendance was excellent and the average winnings were $70 a game, which is high for mountain Bingo games. The doors open at 5 p.m. with first games starting at 6 p.m. Chef Fred cooks a wonderful dinner, for those who want it, for $10. The buy-in for the games is $25 cash for 10 games.
