This year’s annual National Night Out, held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7 on the front entrance patio of the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station, drew what some might consider a moderate crowd, owing to a much larger event (Market Night) at the Masonic Lodge, adjacent to the sheriff’s station.

Lake Arrowhead resident Victoria encourages community members to interact with law enforcement.
There was also some confusion due to misinformation on the actual date and time of the nationwide event, traditionally held on the first Tuesday in August, which would have been Tuesday, Aug. 5.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign, which began in 1984. It promotes law enforcement-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to enhance relationships between neighbors and law enforcement to encourage neighborhood watch groups in an effort to increase neighborhood safety and to reduce crime.
Participating in this year’s event were several dozen sheriff’s deputies, California Highway Patrol officers, Victim’s Outreach Service, San Bernadino Mountain Community Emergency Response Team, sheriff’s Search and Rescue, Cal Fire and the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
Lake Arrowhead resident and community activist Scott Rindenow was seen discussing with a Senator Ochoa Bogh representative some concerns he has about State Highway 173 in the recent burn area near Silverwood Lake and Hesperia.
When another Lake Arrowhead resident was asked whether she has any concerns about safety in her neighborhood, Victoria, who did not reveal her last name, said, “I love living here, but it takes a lot of effort just to get to know people around here. I did go to the hospital to pray for someone who needs encouragement.”
