On a crisp, starlit evening at the Lake Arrowhead Country Club, the Mountain Communities Boys & Girls Club hosted its highly anticipated Concert Under the Stars, an unforgettable celebration of music, unity and the transformative power of community support.
The event, which drew an enthusiastic crowd of supporters, families and alumni, was proudly hosted by Whittier Trust, whose generosity and heart helped bring the night to life. Their commitment to the Club’s mission was echoed throughout the evening, from the glowing ambiance to the heartfelt speeches that moved many to tears.
One of the most powerful moments came from Frankie Sparkman, a former Boys & Girls Club member, who not only delivered a soulful musical performance but also courageously shared his journey. Enrolled in the Club’s after-school program as a child, Sparkman spoke of how the organization gave him more than just a place to go; it gave him guidance, mentorship, emotional support and, above all, love. His story served as a powerful reminder of why the club exists: To change lives.
Marcy Vega, the Club’s CEO, led the event with warmth and gratitude. She and her dedicated team ensured every detail was thoughtfully planned and beautifully executed. From welcoming guests with open arms to curating an unforgettable night, the staff’s dedication was evident at every turn.
Guests enjoyed a delicious variety of cuisine, including Italian, Mexican and American favorites – a true culinary tour that delighted every palate. The setting under the open sky added a touch of magic, creating the perfect backdrop for the night’s entertainment.
The musical highlight of the evening was a spectacular performance by an Elton John tribute band, whose energy and artistry lit up the stage and inspired guests to dance, sing and celebrate together. Their music touched hearts and stirred memories, bringing people of all ages to their feet for a common cause.
As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1995, the Mountain Communities Boys & Girls Club relies on grants and, more importantly, the generosity of its local community. Events like Concert Under the Stars not only raise critical funds but also bring people together to witness the impact their support makes in the lives of young people.
This year’s concert was more than a fundraiser; it was a beautiful evening of connection, purpose and joy. It was a night where the stars weren’t just above them – they were shining in the eyes of every child whose life has been touched by the Club.
“We want to thank our board members Tige and Christy Licato, Chad Logan, Dan Voorhees and Jennifer Reneau that made this event possible with all their hard work,” said Vega. “We want to thank Erin Hernandez who received many donations through her hard work. Thank you to Frankie Sparkman who donated his time to play at this event. We especially thank the people in our community who attended this amazing event.
“The Mountain Communities Boys & Girls club has a saying: ‘We can’t do this alone.’ At this event it was evident we came together as a community to help these families and their children in need,” Vega said.
