Big Bear deputies stop burglary in progress, arrest suspect

On Sunday, September 14, 2025 at approximately !2:01pm, deputies responded to a report of a subject disturbance at a residence in Big Bear Lake. When deputies arrived, they observed a small table on fire in the middle of the roadway and several windows of the residence were broken with shattered glass on the ground.

Deputies arrested Jacob Matara, 40, of Big Bear City, for burglary, arson, vandalism, theft with prior offenses and possession of a controlled substance with prior convictions. Matara is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $60,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear before the San Bernardino County Superior Court on September 17, 2025, at 8:00am.
