Driver and passenger in speeding vehicle die in traffic collision

On Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 1:45 p.m., deputies from the Highland Police Department, Highland Fire Department and medical personnel from American Medical Response responded to the area of Baseline Street and McKinley Avenue for a three-vehicle traffic collision. The collision involved a gray Infiniti sedan, a gray Mazda sedan and a white Toyota sedan.

Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) were on scene and conducted the investigation.

During the investigation, it was determined Driver 1 – a 24-year-old Hispanic male from Highland – driving a gray 2007 Infiniti G35 entered opposing traffic at a high rate of speed and collided head on with Driver 2, a 26-year-old Hispanic male from Highland driving a gray 2017 Mazda 3. Debris from the collision struck a nearby vehicle, which resulted in minor damage.

The male and female occupants of the Infiniti were declared deceased at the scene of the collision by medical personnel. The female was a 21-year-old resident of San Bernardino. Driver 2 was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.  Driver 2 was traveling with two dogs; both dogs died at the scene.  Animal Control responded and took custody of the dogs.
