The eighth annual house and business lighting contest for the Crestline area is underway. The purpose of the contest – known as Crestlights –  is to encourage spreading holiday joy throughout the mountain by illuminating the community with holiday lights on residences and businesses.

Since so many residents decorate their homes and businesses anyway, Crestlights was created to have a friendly contest, while allowing those decorators to win a small recognition for all of their efforts. All those who enter will be placed on a map for others to know where to go to see all the lovely works of light.

Coordinated by Timothy Lopez, this exciting and free contest is offering three trophies in the residential category and one trophy for the business with the best display of holiday lights. Make Crestline sparkle in colorful lights this year. The contest is for those who have their businesses or homes in the Cedarpines Park, Valley of Enchantment, San Moritz and Crestline areas.

This year the businesses along Lake Drive have stepped up their holiday lighting displays. Many of last year’s decorated homes were so imaginative and spectacular, it was difficult for the judges to decide. It is assumed this year’s homes decorations probably will be inspired by the new holiday décor along Lake Drive, which has been coordinated the Crestline Chamber of Commerce as a part of their Holidays in the Pines promotion to encourage shopping locally for the holiday season.

Even if you have only one string of lights on your building, but want to be on the map for others to drive by and see, enter the free contest. The map will not mention the name of the homeowners but will include the addresses of entries in both the residential and business categories. Many residents have said they want to spend a delightful couple of hours driving through the community, seeing it lit up for the holidays.

The judging will take place on Friday evening, Dec. 19. The map will be promoted on social media including Facebook. Winning the contest gives the homeowner or business owner bragging rights for eternity plus a trophy to display.

Creative imagination, whimsey, outrageousness and traditional holiday lighting displays will all impress the judges. It is not always the biggest display that wins; it has been a display with heart that has always seemed to touch the judges in the past.  It is hoped the lighting displays are able to remain up for viewers to see through the end of the year, weather permitting.

It is easy to enter the contest; just put up some lighting decoration, light projections, lighted blowups, with or without music on your home or business, and enter the contest by texting “LIGHT” with your name and the address of the lighting display to (909) 633-7284. Be sure to mention whether it is entered as a business or residential display.

Don’t forget to enter as some of the best lighting displays the judges saw last year were not even entered in the contest.
