The venerable Old Country Coffee Shop in Running Springs played host to a dozen or so sheriff’s deputies and senior officers from the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station and several CHP officers, who showed up for Coffee with a Cop at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3. They had breakfast and socialized with one another, as well as another dozen or so local residents and other interested persons.

Capt. Craig Harris, the Twin Peaks station’s commander, shared that burglaries are high on the list of crimes being committed in the Crestline area, along with drug-related crimes. This reporter can attest to the diligence of these law enforcement men and women who are seen frequently patrolling Lake Drive, Straight Way in Crestline and Highway 138 in Valley of Enchantment.
When asked what inspired him to choose a career in law enforcement, Twin Peaks Station Lieutenant J. Vasquez said he always wanted to be available to protect the local communities. Down-the-hill resident Megan Starbeck, who was visiting her vacation home in Running Springs, said she has always been treated well when visiting the Twin Peaks station.
Capt. Harris reminded everyone that the sheriff’s annual Feasts for Families event is slated for noon on Dec. 20 at the Harich Field baseball complex, also in Twin Peaks. Feasts for Families treats needy families to a take-home gift basket containing a turkey or ham dinner with all of the fixings, along with toys and clothing for the youngsters.
