Crossing the line between bravery and insanity… for charity

How would you like to be “freezin’ for a reason”? It’s that bone-chilling, toe-numbing, frostbiting time of year again—volunteers (yes, people volunteer for this!) will be hopping into Lake Arrowhead at the 17th Annual PolaRotary Bear Plunge on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 10 a.m. Lake Arrowhead Resort & Spa has once again graciously offered up their beach so the fearless among us can raise money for charity by plunging into that cold, cold water.

Each year, The Plunge raises funds to split between the Lake Arrowhead Rotary Foundation and the jumpers’ charities of choice. Last year, one of the beneficiaries of this icy madness was the Blue Jay Jazz Foundation, those cool cats who bring us the Blue Jay Jazz Festival and sponsor scholarships, awards, instruments and live performance opportunities for local music students. Last year, their jumpers raised $3200 for these essential programs.

To participate, visit https://polarotary.rallyup.com/732f5c/Campaign/Details for more information. For the more trepidatious among us who would prefer not to Go Jump In The Lake, we can still make a pledge to the team of our choice. There are over 35 worthy causes listed on the website that could use our support.

Rotary is a “global network of more than 1.2 million neighbors, friends and leaders” who “volunteer their skills and resources to solve issues and address community needs” (rotary.org).
