So sad to see a man like Bob Weir cross over to the other side… he will be greatly missed by his family and all of his admirers. It was nice to see Bobby honored during the Grammy Award show on Sunday, Feb. 1, when the event celebrated diverse musical achievements, including performances honoring musical legends with Special Merit Awards, before the main show.
There is a road, no simple highway between the dawn and the dark of night, and if you go, no one may follow. That path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water when there is no pebble tossed, nor wind to blow. (“Ripple” – Grateful Dead – 1970)
I was lucky enough to follow Bobby and Jerry and the boys around, throughout California and several other western states, including at a series of three concerts at the Sam Boyd Silver Bowl on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas during the Dead’s May 1992 run. I also got to see the Jerry Garcia Band at the Henry J. Kaiser Arena in downtown Oakland, not to mention Dead and Company at Dodger Stadium. And, more recently, at the Sphere in Las Vegas, where Bobby goes flying up into space, still singing and strumming his guitar while passing planets and dodging satellites and asteroids. He finally ends up swirling through a black hole, only to come out at the other end in (guess where?) Haight-Ashbury. Pretty amazing, and ironic.
I want to thank Golden Entertainment and the Strat (formerly the Stratosphere Hotel/Casino) for comping me the tickets, which enabled me and my newly found lady friend, who was looking for a ticket in the valet parking area of the Strat before the show, to enjoy it with me. She was only too happy to join me in sitting in Golden Entertainment’s corporate box, which provides 12 theater-style seats, with a small kitchen area serving cookies, popcorn and all the beer and wine you can drink. It’s a good thing they also provided transportation to and from the event.
You who choose to lead must follow, but if you fall, you fall alone. If you should stand then who’s to guide you? If I knew the way, I would take you home.

Keep on Truckin’,
