Members of the Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead and the Rim of the World High School Interact Club treated residents of the Mountains Community Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility to a Valentine’s Day brunch on Feb. 14.

The residents delighted in the food – assorted small Danish; mini cinnamon rolls; cheeses and crackers; charcuterie; a fresh fruit platter; egg, chicken and tuna salad croissant sandwiches; and cookies. They also delighted in the conversations they had with the Rim High students.

The Interactors also delivered gifts to each resident: coloring or word search books, socks, sweet treats, popcorn, lip balm and other personal products.

“The residents really, really loved it,” said Cheri Altmeyer, the SNF activities director, who thanked the Rotary Club for the “wonderful day.”

This party was funded by a Wallis-Jones Grant through Rotary District 5330. Wallis and Mildred Jones created an endowment to support projects coordinated by Rotary Clubs working with organized high school youth groups to “assist senior and/or handicapped citizens to live more satisfying and fuller lives.”

A Valentine’s Day surprise was one of the ways Rotary and Interact have done that this year.
