A $20,000 donation from the Lake Arrowhead New Friends of the Library organization for the Lake Arrowhead Branch Library was accepted by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors at their Feb. 24 board meeting.

The county said the funds will be used to update shelving for physical library materials in the Lake Arrowhead Branch Library.

The recommendation to the supervisors was made by Melanie Orosco, county librarian.

“The funds will be used to pay for upgraded shelving fixtures in the Friends of the Library bookstore, located within the Lake Arrowhead Library’s Blue Jay location,” said Marilyn Mays, New Friends of the Library vice president.

“The bookstore’s shelving was not replaced during the remodel a few years ago, but it will now match the fixtures throughout the library and will meet a higher safety standard,” she added. “The county is also contributing to the total cost. The work should start in a few months.”

Sales from used books go 100 percent to the Lake Arrowhead New Friends of the Library to help support the library. Books are donated from the community. Bookstore sales help support children’s programs, technology and library materials.

The Lake Arrowhead Branch Library is located at 27235 Highway 189 in Blue Jay.

The nonprofit organization supports the Lake Arrowhead Branch Library, enhancing services through fundraising and volunteer efforts and was organized in 2023.
