Victim beaten and robbed of money

On Wednesday, March 11, at 7:57 a.m., Highland deputies took a report of an assault in the 26000 block of East Highland Avenue in Highland. The victim met a male subject, later identified as Clarence Banks – 40 of Chino – at a local business. Banks and the victim left the location in a vehicle together and, while driving, Banks reached over and forcefully took approximately $1,000 from the victim’s pocket.

During the altercation, Banks pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded the victim get out of the vehicle. The victim refused and Banks struck him in the face with the handgun, causing serious injury to the victim’s face. The victim complied, exited the vehicle and the suspect fled the location.

On Thursday, March 12, Highland detectives located Banks at his home where he was arrested. A search of the home was conducted where detectives found a firearm with high-capacity magazines and suspected narcotics. Banks was transported and booked into the Central Detention Center.

Banks was charged with PC 211- robbery; PC 243(D)- battery with serious bodily injury; and PC 245(A)(2) – assault with firearm on a person.
