It’s May and many new activities are occurring at Leisure Shores Senior Center in Crestline.
On May 1, the Crafternoon group made candles and suncatchers from dried flowers and votive candles. Every Friday they have art sessions. The members play games, such as dominoes, cards and bunco. They have discussion groups on philosophy and health for seniors in the P.E.A.R.L.S. class on Tuesdays. There are international dance lessons, yoga and Tai Chi classes are very popular.
Membership in the Crest Forest Senior Citizens Club at Leisure Shores is only $20 a year and open to anyone over age 50. Come to the club house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and enroll before you miss more of the fun. Call (909) 338-5036 for more information.
On the afternoon of Saturday, May 9, a Spring Tea is being offered for mothers, daughters and their families at Leisure Shores from 1 to 3 p.m., for $15 a person. There will be a best spring hat contest. Enjoy the fine China teacups and learn a bit about the tradition of tea.
Leisure Shores is hosting a dance for senior residents on May 15 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Music will be spinning from the 60s through 90s for dancing. A taco bar, chips and salsa, other food, dessert and refreshing drinks are included. A silent auction is being offered. The dance is raising funds for the senior center’s benevolence fund. Call or text (909) 494-2277 for tickets.
The senior nutritional lunches continue at the San Moritz Lodge on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The meal is offered to anyone over 60 years of age who wants to enjoy the friendship and community information shared at the meetings. Attendees should arrive at 11:30 as lunch is served promptly at noon. They do request a $3 contribution for the meals. The Mountain Transit busses have a bus stop at the San Moritz Lodge in time for these meals.
