Two arrested for selling nicotine or tobacco to persons under 21

On Tuesday, May 5, deputies from the Twin Peaks Station, in coordination with the Chino Hills Station, conducted a targeted decoy operation to ensure local retailers are complying with state laws regarding the sale of tobacco and nicotine products to minors.

During the operation, investigators visited multiple vape and tobacco shops within the Twin Peaks Station jurisdiction, stretching from Running Springs to Crestline. While the majority of businesses remained in compliance, two locations were found to be in violation of California Penal Code 308(a) – Sell Nicotine/ Tobacco to a Person Under 21 Years Old.

The following individuals were cited after selling nicotine products to an underage decoy:

  • David Yohanna, an employee at Vanity Vape (280 Highway 173, Lake Arrowhead)
    • David Hansen, an employee at Mountain Tobacco (Crestline)

Reports for both incidents have been documented and will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution under PC 308(a), which prohibits the sale of tobacco products to individuals under the age of 21.

Despite these two violations, the Twin Peaks Station is encouraged to report that all other shops inspected during the operation were found to be in full compliance with the law.

The Twin Peaks Station will continue to conduct similar compliance checks to ensure local businesses are operating responsibly and adhering to state regulations.

Anyone with information about this case (No. 052600492 and 052600493)  is asked to contact Deputy J. David of the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station at (909)336-0600. Callers wishing to remain anonymous should call or text REPORT to We-Tip at (844) 909-3006.  Online reporting is also available at https://mobile.catapultems.com/sbcsd/Sites.
