The Crest Forest Senior Citizens Club held a spring tea for mothers and their families on Saturday afternoon, May 10, with a spring garden theme. The freshly painted Lakeside Room (thanks to Rebuilding Together Mountain Communities) was wonderfully decorated in light green, pinks and yellows, representing the new growth of the plants and trees this spring, and filled with flowers, resembling an English spring garden. Lori Wickes and Vicki Vargas coordinated the entire event for the four dozen attendees.
Each table was set with cloth tablecloths, each place setting had fine china teacups and saucers with chamomile tea and elegant teapots with beautiful tiered china serving platters filled with finger sandwiches.
Many door prizes were drawn, including for a numbered Thomas Kincaide flower vase.
There were crème puffs and eclairs and traditional tea foods. There were wonderful center pieces of tealights in pretty dried flower decorated glass votive candles, making a lovely impression on the attendees. When entering the room there was a wrought iron tea cart with a tea set and a photo spot, with cascading flowers. Many had their photos taken there both before and after the tea party.
Each place setting also had a clay flowerpot with their dessert in it of chocolate mousse covered with crushed Oreos looking like dirt with a flower in it, with a tiny gold dessert spoon to enjoy it. The entire visual was quite fun and imaginative and the food was delicious.
There was a delightful presentation on chamomile tea, where it comes from and how it positively affects the health of the tea drinker, by Vanessa Rene of Earth Elements in Crestline. Every place setting had chamomile tea to drink with their meal and, throughout the afternoon, Lori and Vicki circled the room offering more to complement the meal. There were many door prizes and a contest for the best spring hat.
The seniors are grateful to the Twin Peaks Community Church for loaning the beautiful china tea cups and teapots to the event and for the delicious egg and chicken salads for the sandwiches which were made by Wendy Johnson. Leisure Shores is so fortunate to have so many volunteers who helped plan, set up before and cleanup after the lovely afternoon tea. They are thankful for all who attended and to Tamara who stood at the gate to admit only the tea party attendees to the parking lot as many fishermen were along the shore taking advantage of the recently restocked Lake Gregory and the wonderful weather.
